Is It 2010 Already???

How did that happened? The last two weeks have been a bit of a blur. All that preparation and anticipation and before you know it its all over and done with and you’re taking the deccies down and getting ready to go back to work.

So, a quick round up of the festive season in Cookieland:

Good news from the hospital about Ewan’s bone scan – the results showed a small bone deformity at the top of his thigh bone but nothing serious and nothing to be concerned over particularly. He has to go back in 12 months for check up.

Not so good news from the hospital about Dad. They confirm a diagnosis of cancer… however it hasn’t spread anywhere else (thank goodness) and it’s looking likely they’ll be able to operate which is positive.

Our Christmas Eve didn’t go exactly according to plan this year, mostly due to a certain little boy with a poorly tummy. Sufficient to say that the only person who still had their new Christmas jammies on on Christmas morning was Gracie – all the others had been puked on and replaced over night. *sigh*

Christmas day brought many happy smiles with Grace being over the moon with the pink Nintendo DS and Egg being a happy camper with his collection of Spiderman stuff and kiddie meccano. Mostly my presents consisted of fitness equipment and cooking books. I suspect Santa’s trying to tell me something ;)

Boxing day proved that 5 year olds are surprisingly good at Pictionary – and that Grace knows WAY more about Harry Potter than Auntie Yan does (sorry Yan – you’re just going to have to suck it up and accept that your niece is a bigger Potter fan than you are ;P).

New Year’s Eve was, as always, a sedate affair for us. One bottle of beer, some TV and tucked up in bed by 11.30pm (although that was a waste of time because the fireworks at midnight kept me up). Rock N Roll, as always.

New Year’s Day was a case of “start as you mean to go on” for me with a meeting with a fitness co-ordinator at my new gym to set up a training programme (glutton for punishment clearly).

And here I am on the 4th, back at work. Grace is back in school tomorrow and Egg started his funded place at nursery today so will go every afternoon from now on (I don’t think he’s going to be very impressed with that idea).

So. January 2010. The last couple of years I’ve gone with a “one little word” theme when it comes to resolutions (or rather non-resolutions as I prefer– if I don’t resolve to do them, they’re much more likely to get done!)

For 2008 my word was SIMPLE.

For 2009 my word was BALANCE.

I’ve given quite a bit of thought to my word for 2010 and I think my word for this year will be

The last couple of words have been kind of passive, and that’s not what I need right now. I need to start taking some action!

Action in terms of my fitness and health. I’d been doing really well with building up my running for the 5K race in September. I was really amazed at how much I’d managed to improve my fitness. Then I ran the race and then did sod all for 3 months, and it’s starting to show! I need to lose some weight, gain some stamina and get some tone. A new gym, a new training programme and carrying on with my karate classes (yup, I took up karate classes. Scary I know) should help with that.

Action in terms of getting things in order at home. My house is a perpetual crap heap. I really need to start taking some steps towards getting things done more at home and that means less time in front of the TV and more time actually doing stuff (like picking up after ourselves and not letting Mt Washmore pile up).

Action in terms of crafting. I was really pleased that I managed to teach myself how to crochet last year. I can’t wait to build on that and start making some new projects this year. I also know that I need to rein myself in when it comes to getting over enthusiastic about new projects. One action at a time will do!

Action in terms of dealing with the kids. Those children of ours. They’re getting incredibly pesky of late. Snappy and squabbly and more than a little bit naughty. I definitely need to work on spending time with them (not in terms of more, but in terms of better) and on giving them more productive ways of dealing with the fact that they pretty much want to thump each other every other minute.

Action in terms of work. The winter weather and the stress of the last couple of months in terms of worry about Ewan and Dad have meant I haven’t been giving work my full attention. I need to sort that out. There’s a lot of stuff that needs to be organised in terms of the new building and some new projects that are coming online so I’m going to take actions to be more organised and more proactive at work. They’re paying me to be here, so I’d better start given them either monies worth.

So that’s the goal for 2010. Much more action.

Happy New Year to all of you. I hope it’s a good one all round.

P.S. I do have some more JYC pages to share. I just haven't photocopied the ones I've done, or indeed caught up with the class yet. Oops.
