Flying The Flag

I must have seen 40 or 50 of these flying in some form or other (on houses, on cars, outside pubs) on my way to work this morning. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to walk down a street in England at the moment and not see one.

I have to say, it's a refreshing change. For so many years now it seems that we, as a country, have had very little pride in being English. It hasn't helped that some extremist groups have seen fit to try and appropriate our national flag as a symbol of all the nastiness they stand for.

It looks like the tide is turning. We're reclaiming our flag and being proud to be English (as well we should). Well, at least until some numpty overpaid footballer makes a stupid mistake and we get knocked out of the World Cup :P

What a shame it has to take a sporting event for some sort of national pride to emerge. Football....yuk!! :P

That was kind of how it felt in the US after the September 11 attacks. There were flags everywhere, but it was nice to see them all flying. Glad your country didn't have to have anything quite so drastic to inspire national pride. :)
